Virginia creeper - Free picture for blogs

image name

Image Description: An up close shot of the deep red fall leaves of the Virginia Creeper, a climbing vine which can grow up to 50 feet in length! This plant is frequently confused with Poison Ivy, which it often grows alongside of. Virginia Creeper can grow as a vine up tree trunks and walls (they have little adhesive pads on the ends of their tendrils and grab on like tiny little arms), or it can stand alone by sending out shooters. Either way, it is very fast growing and can choke out other trees or shrubs if not controlled. This vine will bloom from June through August, and their flowers are tiny, yellowish-green clusters. Virginia Creeper can and will grow just about anywhere, and will do fine in either shade or sun. The berries of the creeper are eaten by many animals, including birds, mice, skunks, chipmunks, squirrels, and deer, but the berries are poisonous to humans.
